EVVA MCS or KESO 8000 Ω2?

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

EVVA MCS or KESO 8000 Ω2?

Postby helule » 26 Jan 2018 11:10

I am in the process of changing all the cylinders from my home and I would like to ask for advice about the best option on a loose budget.

I have narrowed the options to these ones:

- EVVA MCS
- KESO 8000 Ω2 E.16

I know every lock is pickable and that even the MCS has been picked recently, but I would like to add some extra security to my main doors (I am coming from a Ezcurra DS-15, so that is going to be pretty easy).

I have read that the EVVA MCS is one if not the best from the hybrid magnetic+mechanical lock type, and same for the KESO 8000 among the mechanical cylinders. I am concerned about the magnetic cylinders expected life and usability (I would not like to stand one day on the wrong side of a not working 200€ lock).

Anyone has some advices about these or other cylinders? Any hint about an additional shield (disec, gemini..) would be appreciated too.

Thanks a lot!

The MCS is a better option in terms of pick resistance. It may have been picked but that was under ideal conditions with specific tools. The KESO on the other hand can be picked with a basic flag and tension wrench. Also in my experience the KESO locks are not that difficult to pick compared to other radially pinned locks such as the higher end KABA stuff.

Thank you.

I dd not know KESO was that easy to pick.

I will have a look at Kabba. I see the Quattro Plus seems to be the most secure one.

The Penta one seems to be the one with most locks (27) so I will go for it.
