UK Bump-keys Legit?

I recently placed and order with UKbumpkeys and I got the following email back:

Hi,

Unfortunately our system marked the your recent transaction with us as being potentially fraudulent. I’m really sorry about that - in order for us to dispatch immediately, can you please attach some ID to this email for verification? Something like passport/driving licence with some of the details blanked out if you wish. Also an image of the card used with all but numbers blanked except the last 4 on the cards long number can also help a lot.

We just want to make sure it’s you, and that no one is using your card. You will have to ensure that your billing and delivery address are the same for this first order only.

Apologies again for the inconvenience, I’m sure we can resolve this and get your products to you quickly!

To me this sends up a red flag. I just wanted to make sure they are on the up and up. I have never had a purchase ask for my ID before.

CC Fraud is rampant so one can only presume they have been "bitten" before.

Indeed, especially since it can often be the merchant left holding the bag when that happens. The banks will usually try to recover the cost of the fraud from them, especially if the banks believe the merchant did not take appropriate steps to prevent the fraud.

Depends what you mean by that. If you're asking, "Is UKBumpKeys a legitimate/reputable merchant?" I haven't personally done business with them, so have no standing to answer that. If you're asking, "Is it legitimate that they're asking you to take steps to prove that your purchase isn't fraud?" I'd say probably. I'm not personally sure I'd be cool with sending them a pic of my passport or license, but asking you to prove that you're in physical possession of the card in question seems like a perfectly reasonable request if their system is suspecting fraud.

I have ordered from them twice. I didn't have any issues with payment, but I used paypal at checkout. The first time they did ship the wrong product to me though.

Why are you buying from a UK based lock picking supply shop when there are plenty here in the US including our very own forum sponsors LockPickShop.com and HackerStickers.com ? There is also Serepick.com for some specialized gear.

I ordered a 2 in 1 pick for the Chubb Battleship and they sent one for a Cruiser. I have a Cruiser as well so didn't bother with returning it. I wanted to try using that type of tool and didn't want to make my own or file down a key and use a wire. I don't think our sponsored sites sell those type of tools but I have used lockpickshop.com many times.

Why am I using UK bump key? They recently got a state side distributor. The picks they have are cheeper copy's of the mad bob picks and they should work with the brass/copper/titanium grips I have made and are making.

Basically there dangerfield line are the same -the polishing as my current picks I got when I first started lock picking. If any of the USA (or Canada) businesses carried picks with the holes in the same spot and the same width id go with them too.

I'm still a bit aprensive sending my license to some company I have little knowlage of.

Just send them the credit card picture and see what happens. Cover the first 12 numbers with tape before taking the picture.

By the way, I ordered a Swiss file from them and got it without any issue.

I have bought from them before, but I am based in Scotland which may make a difference ,but never had a problem with them

I also have done business with this firm, and have not had any problems with them other than delays in shipping most likely due to the international nature of the order. Hopefully there US based distribution center will be faster as they come online.
