Old Safe - brand unknown

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Old Safe - brand unknown

Hey there - First time post

I have a safe i was just given by an work friend, he gave me the supposed combo and two keys (both marked with an LG)

The combo is 4 sets of numbers with Right - left - right - left written under each

I attempted to open it with the combo but am not sure of the proper sequence of clearing / turns / when to use the key etc

I appreciate any help - and look forward to cleaning the safe up and enjoin it :lol:

The combo must be dialed and the key must be turned to open the safe. You can dial open the combo and leave it in 'open' condition and then use just the key.

If your instructions are correct this lock opens in the reverse direction from what most of us are used to. So if the below method does not work, try exchanging each left and right.

The normal dialing sequence is:
4 turns Right stopping on the 1st number;
3 turns Left stopping on the 2nd number the third time you see it;
2 turns Right stopping on the 3rd number the second time you see it;
1 turn Left until the dial stops. If the dial keeps going around it did not unlock.

I would edit my own post to add a correction. Since they gave you 4 sets of numbers and you have a high security key that lock must be a 4-wheel lock, not a 3-wheel as I was thinking.

Try this series of turns:
The normal dialing sequence is:
5 turns Right stopping on the 1st number;
4 turns Left stopping on the 2nd number the fourth time you see it;
3 turns Right stopping on the 3rd number the third time you see it;
2 turns Left stopping on the 4th number the second time you see it;
1 turn Right until the dial stops. If the dial keeps going around it did not unlock.

Some safe owners will have a 3 number combination but the instructions mention dialing to 0 or to 92 to a full stop and it ends up looking like the safe is really a 4 number combination.

OP could we see the way your instructions are written exactly?

Thanks

This safe was imported / labelled and sold by Empire Safe, but was made by someone else... could be something like ISM, Surimax, Giant, etc...more research are needed... maybe TL15, probably TL30

it does look like an ISM Treasury doesnt it...

The OP has not been logged in since Feb 26th, not sure if they get email alerts on new replies. Their IP shows Washington DC Comcast cable modem as a location, so not too far for an Empire safe to travel.

Thanks for your recent replies, you sure know your stuff!
