STAR American security co. Model c2019 serial 153443

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Thanks for your help tonight, Farwell until next time! Those firing orders are not currently working but I haven't ruled out user error yet, continuing to fiddle! (The lady LOVES this rabbit hole...lol)

I really appreciate all the help and the brainstorm. I'm super bummed and feel pretty foolish that I thought I would be able to diy crack harm free with zero experience. It was an insult to the profession, and it's probably a tad frustrating for any of you having to re explain facts over myths so my bad for stirring that pot. Found a local Smith who talked to me, and actually got worried that I was talking to any of you hahaha I said these guys seem pretty honest but now I have a local Smith who doesn't think I'm a liability! They offered a $100 chance for a harm free crack on their autodial. I thought it was cool the community here made an effort for me, and I do apologize for coming in like a hot potato!
I'll post a picture if there was any cool things inside, but if not hey it was a gigantic $100 Safe!

heh, its all good. we have members here who are professional locksmiths, so def not up to anything shady. A lot of old timers dont understand why we would be interested in picking locks for fun, its odd to them and they are very suspicious and very guarded when it comes to the most basic of info.

an auto dialer session for $100 is a great deal. let us know how it works out and what the combo was! =)

Thanks for stopping by to follow up as well,

If someone drilled then it would seem they also replaced the whole wood sheet. I had figured that a bank might pay to have the contents emptied in case of repo. Big thanks on the brainstorm!

Edit: I agree the upper left and lower right corner of the label show signs of a careful and single pry. They only removed the finish and did not dent the wood. Could be tape marks.

Edit edit: normal notch or worker/maker mark?

That extra notch to the left is the change index. When you are changing the combination, you dial to that notch.

This safe has been relinquished to the laughing hands of my local locksmith!
He admired my attempts and will gladly take my money hahaha
BUT the best part is I'll find out if there was hidden treasure and have a free working safe by the weekend! (pending PJ's schedule)

Safe cracked this morning! Only containing o.g. paperwork and change key, super cool!
Sergeant lock, 6700 series mount vd, you guys nailed that one fyi
PJ doesn't think that is imported
When asked about the dial and ring not matching, he replied well maybe
But it was also missing a plastic like cover that shielded the numbers from prying eyes lol
Standard fire safe not a burglary safe
Thanks so much for everyone's effort to help this be fun for me,
It was a blast.

He used the dialer, and that combo came back as 6-9-74, a far cry from a number 32 i thought i found!!
but then while I was there he was still working the lock a bit behind the plate and to a different combo
so I don't know if he changed it for me or if he had to manipulate a bit to find the real combo.
He seemed to want to cover parts of what he was doing that is why I felt like he was manipulating. (plus we hadn't found the change key yet, nor was a key of his own inserted at that time)

Despite the video you gave me and all other references throughout the forum I was still dialing the combo incredibly wrong and it was painful for PJ to see me do it

It has a single, seriously mean, adjustable and 1/8th inch thick plate steel shelf! thing probably weighs nearly 10-15 pounds, could blunt off a barefoot toe if it was dropped!!

It would be very clever to cast gold bars into shelves for a safe, spray paint them black, and then if anyone opened the safe, they would see an empty safe with 2 or 3 shelves, never knowing they are pure gold.
