Brinks Circular Lock

Postby F-ingRookie » 9 Apr 2018 18:15

I have only been playing with a cheap set of picks and a handful of locks for around a month. I have gotten the hang of a couple practice locks as well as a handful of padlocks I had lying around; a small Master lock, a large Master Lock #15, and some cheap off-brand locks. I have a Brinks Circular lock that looks exactly like the R70 that I've seen in dozens of lock picking videos.

However, the one I have only says "Stainless Steel" under the keyhole instead of R70. "Brinks" written vertically to the left, "Hardened" written on the shackle itself. It says only "China" and "Stainless Steel" on the back side. No matter how I vary my search for padlocks in general I cannot find one that (visually) matches this thing exactly; even on the Brinks website. I have no idea when I actually bought it but it has been awhile.

Is it simply an older model R70? This is the only lock in my possession which I have never been able to open; the thing has become my nemesis. Should I be following all the tips and advice for opening an R70? Or do I have something different?

Have one of those, too. Tension is kind of knife edge. Too little, and the pins won't set. Too much, and the pins won't move. Watch the keyway very carefully when you start to tension the plug. You have to go against a spring when tensioning. Very gradually add tension until you see it stop. Don't add any more tension.

Post some photos of yours please, as far as I remember, there was a normal size R70 and a small R70, maybe you have the smaller one.

It will have at least 1 spool security anti pick pin, so search for spool pins here or on youtube and learn how those are picked. I wobble my tension from medium to hard while I pick. It takes some effort to rotate the shackle once you picked the core.
