American 1100 series

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

American 1100 series

Postby Jalov » 11 Apr 2018 0:49

Hello, I am looking for information/pictures of the older 1100 (1105 in particular, but any will do) series locks from the late 80s. I'm not positive, but fairly sure this series was introduced in the late 80s, 87 to be exact, but I'm not 100% certain of that and would like to be. They have white writing and use the older logo. I recall seeing these on a website for sell a few months back, but now that I'm actually looking for it I cannot find it nor any information regarding them. Any and all information as well as pictures would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Have you tried the search function? And if that doesn't work well, try using Google with "1100 American padlock site:lockpicking101.com" keywords.

Good luck :)

This sounds interesting, what kind of project are you working on that requires such specific info on just one model of a padlock? Google Image search will get you all the photos you need.

Thanks!

Thank you, and I have with no luck whatsoever, but I've not tried with the keyword function so I shall try that now!

EDIT: still nothing, only information on picking them which is not at all what I need. ^.^

No project, call me crazy, but it has been bugging me the past week or so that I cannot find any information on them again. The only photos of them I have came from an eBay seller who's grandfather worked for american over 30 years, but has recently passed away. Thank you!

Could you show us *which* American Lock logo is on the lock you are looking for? They've had 3 or 4 different logo changes over the years..

there's the american U.S.A. with large a and n
there's the [A]merican Lock Company with the A in a box
there's the American Lock with a little USA flag
there's the new American Lock with no flag

Sure thing. This one is from 89, to my knowledge the ones from 87 and 88 are the brighter colors and the ones from 89 are the flat colors and these are the only (first?) 3 years that this style was made. Thank you, again.

I think you have to clarify what you're actually looking for information wise... like how many were made? I guess I'm not really understanding the fascination with white lettered American Lock padlocks made in late 80's, is this special to you because of a personal reason or is it a rare lock or something? Do you need one of these to replace one that was cut or damaged? It just seems like a very very specific goose chase.

Have you tried to call American Lock and ask to talk to a company historian or something?

good luck, I dont have any more info on these

I'm looking for any pictures of them and want to know if that (87) was the first year the 1100s were introduced is all. I have emailed them, but not tried calling. I'll try to find their number and do that in the morning. I don't know if rare would be the correct word, but there seems to be no pictures or any information at all about them online anywhere so they must be something.. Thank you!
