Practice safe lock (from China)

Postby Gantry » 10 Apr 2018 19:58

I'm not into safes or safe lock manipulation but I saw this on one of the Chinese sites I check out. I have NO idea if it's any good or if it will help out a beginner but it's only cost $15.99 (US) so might be worth checking out....?

Thing is this isn't a complete safe lock, as it has no fence--
and therefore as a practice aid no value

Look for an used sargent and greenleaf 6730 on eBay.
But be warned: once you start manipulating you'll get the bug!

Cheers :)

How cheap would ebay6730 locks be.

I found this for $87 bucks on MBA. Is it overpriced? http://mbausa.com/s-g-6730-lock-pkg-w-d220-top-reading-dial-ring-b-w/

Would it be good for practice as it seems to be at a good price.

MBA does not consider this am "restricted" item.

a bit of ply wood, an "L" bracket and a cheap door handle and you could make a practice safe door to fit one of those to.
a tidy locksmith, picks, up his rubish

I just thought I would add to the info about this safe lock. It is a complete lock, new or as a replacement, (dial, ring, and wheel pack) for many safes built in China and possibly other oriental countries. I have seen this on imported gun safes using a fence connected directly to the bolt rack. I can not imagine where the title "practice safe lock" came from as it must be an imagination.

You can tell from the outside of the safe that it is not an S&G by feeling the wheels bumping the fence when you put pressure on the handle. If someone ever had to open one of these safes, expecting to pull the dial and drill as for an S&G 6700, they would be very surprised. I have imagined a method to open one of these safes without drilling but have never had the opportunity to try it.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool. Wisdom is not just in determining how to do something, but also includes determining whether it should be done at all.

Looks Like one I saw on a recent Sentry Safe. Customer had a Safe, Door Open, Bolts thrown, Takes a Tubular key as well. Can't get Plastic cover off the inside with bolts thrown, drilled hole and determined combo, Looks must like your picture. Has some type of clicker? One full turn of the dial may click about 200 times in one revolution, very distracting when trying to feel or listen.
