Trouble with a American 600

I was given an American 600 (Older model, no disk) that was put back together in correctly.. Somehow the core and the cam don't line up to open the lock .. I have tried a bypass tool but it is not working .. So, my question is .. Can these be shimmed.. I think that maybe my only hope..

I have a key but turning it doesnt open and doesnt feel like it is turning the cam.

I don't personally own one, but from the couple of videos I could find of them, looking at the indentations on the shackle it certainly looks to me like a ball bearing locking mechanism, so I'd guess not.

If bypass won't work, it may be down to destructive entry. There is a technique on some of the American models that you can get in in a less-destructive way by using a trick on the head of the retaining screw. Being the open forum I don't want to say too much here, but if you're unsure what I'm talking about PM me and I'll send more details or a link to the post if I can find it (I thought it was on this site, but I can't seem to find it right now, which may just be my search-fu failing. Maybe one of the other members knows what I'm referring to and has better luck finding the link...)

I wonder if the locking dog spring isn't "loaded" Could you pick it counter clockwise and then stick the bypass tool down it and find the pizza slice cut out in the locking dog and flick it open? or I'm wondering if picking it open counter clockwise, then inserting the key or tip of a screw driver and keep rotating counter clockwise would help the plug engage the locking dog ? Then relock the plug, and try the key clockwise.

Lock doesnt have a retaining screw, it is a older model where you have to push in a pin down in the shackle hole. This is what releases the core
