Lock picked, but door won't open?

Postby andrew-n » 5 Jun 2018 11:11

Hello,

I picked an old door lock, a deadbolt I think, by raking in two seconds. The cylinder turned half a turn counter clockwise, but the door won't open. Could it be that there are more pins that can only be picked at half a turn or something?

It didn't say the brand on the outside, and there were no other locks on the door (obviously).

Thanks

its not so obvious to us as we aren't looking at the door. got a photo of the lock and of the door? which side of the door was the deadbolt mounted on, are the pins at the top or bottom of the keyhole? Is what you are calling a deadbolt possibly a knob you grab and twist with your hand or lever handle you grab and press down or is it a deadbolt mounted at shoulder level?

you may have picked the lock in the wrong direction, try picking it in the opposite direction (clockwise / counter-clockwise)

pictures will help a lot, upload them somewhere and copy/paste the link here

Thanks. This is what the lock/door looks like, post-picking.

The keyhole is normally at the bottom, with the pins at the top. I tried picking it clockwise, too, but it wouldn't budge at all. The handle is not locked, and I can see it disengage with the door frame when turned.

Thanks

surface mount night latch or jimmy proof deadbolt.

press the door next to the lock to relieve pressure on the lock bolt and keep turning the plug until you hear it click.

Because the core in now upside down the top pins may have fallen into the slot in the bottom (now in the top position in the picture). You may have to use a pick to push up those pins before you can get the core to turn.
Try what Squelchtone says first, if it still wont turn than push up on the pins and AT THE SAME TIME try turning it again. Hope this picture help with what I trying to say....

Actually I noticed on the day the OP first posted it, but I thought giving advice for B&E was frowned upon...
