Old safe in basement can't open.

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

So I have had a safe in my basement for years now and the people who owned the house before us said it was there too and they didn't know the combo to it. I've been desperately wanting to open it for the longest time but need to know the best way to break it open?

Hello,

Any way you could get a photo that is in better focus? or a close up of the handle and dial in the same frame?

Does it say anything on the coin in the center of the dial? how many numbers are on the dial?

Will wait for some better pics so we can actually identify the brand of safe.

Thank you,

Sure I can try getting as good as a photo as a can of the places you have mentioned.

Possibly the straight-tailpiece lock, C-5. When applying pressure to the handle while turning dial, does it bind?

Don't hurt that safe! It's a nice one. I opened one of those in a funeral home once. Is there somehow you can message me and we can figure it out? I'm new to this forum...

If you post where you are located, maybe a local member can swing by and help.

I’ve got two Cary safes open now and would be happy to share pictures of the insides (lock and bolt mechanism) if it is allowed.

Squelchtone - please advise.

djed: your safe used the Y-6 and had a different dial and different wording on the nose, I believe.

Yes - my dial is different.

Thank you for clarifying.
