House lock

Postby void » 28 Nov 2004 21:32

Out of interest, does anyone know the name of locks on houses that the key look like this:

| |
| |
| |
| |
| |
| |____
| ____|
| |___
|_____|

rough ascii scetch ;). I guess when you twist it , it moves a plate inside which then opens the lock. It will be a euro (English) lock I guess. Was wonering how I would break into my own house. :D.

I would of searched but didn't know how to start with a broad question like this,

Thanks.

chances are its a "skeleton key" aslo known as a bit key if i'm correct, does it look kinda like this?

the lock is called a lever lock,
lever lock
lock with levers that are each lifted to the correct level by a bit key or flat metal key to enable the lock to operate.

that pretty well takes care of it, hope i helped.
