York Safe

Here’s a York safe I just purchased from a local seller. I assume it’s an in floor safe but I am open to being corrected. Would love to know any details (e.g., manufacture date) you can provide.

Will provide more pictures when I take it out of the truck.

York 400 line lug door. RH mounted Yale 2421Y. Nose dial is removable. I had posted a repair/service I did on one a couple years ago but can't find the thread. Maybe it's on KP.

Thank you. Any idea on age? Also, I can guess but what are the anchor loops on the sides for?

Oh shoot - these have a relocker according to your old post - https://www.antique-locks.com/showthrea ... &styleid=6

I hope I didn’t trip it when I moved it. I’ll have to check when I get home. That would be a shame.

Loops are probably for easy moving at factory and maybe for lowering it for in-floor installation. Not sure of date......30s-40s??

That's a nice safe!
Are you going to restore it or leave it as is?

Still not sure. Likely clean it but otherwise leave it as is.

Bitbuster,

Thank you. The tip about the nose dial was very helpful. On disassembly, the safe lock looked clean but definitely hadn’t been maintained as the grease looked to be dried in many places. The springs holding the bottom relockers were removed. The top spring was still in place so I have an example of what to fabricate.

Does anyone have any advice on separating the crane hinge from the interior door frame? I believe I need to punch two pins but I want to be sure.

Rather than punch, I would press them off. Only suggesting------did not do it on the one I serviced.
