Sears Padlocks

Postby Pick180 » 6 Oct 2018 23:15

I was going through the basement of my grandparents house and came across a sears padlock. It says sears on it and it is brass with a steel shackle; how old are these padlocks? I have never seen them (its quite unremarkable with 5 standard pins) and the one I have has no key sadly. It was quite tarnished and its steel shackle was starting to rust so I restored it the best I could. The link leads to an etsy posting of a similar looking lock, mine is slightly older looking and slightly thicker.

Also people don't think of etsy as a website that sells padlocks, but it does (good price too).

Looks like a cheap Chinese padlock to me. I'd expect to pay 5 dollars for a brand new one.

Never polish old locks, you ruin the patina that makes them more valuable for collectors.

Anyway, is always nice to find an old padlock. Enjoy it.

Cheers :)

how old? 1970s maybe 1980's

nothing to really write home about though, just a padlock made for Sears.

Other than the logo, looks like an Ilco 384. If it that, and was re-badged as a Sears, then it has 5 pins and an extruded brass body.

Scratch that--on my phone the link showed a different Sears lock. This is not an Ilco 384.

Looks like Abus which made them for Sears in the 80's and 90's

It does not pick like an abus, it is too easy. I think wilson bohannan made them because it looks like one and it is pinned like one as well. Who knows maybe when Sears goes out of business it will become worth something, but I doubt it will.
