Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

I purchased an old victor safe with no combination. Any tips on retrieving the combination to use it at home? it's a 100 dial and hopefully the pictures downloaded correctly. Thanks in advance for the help that is needed.

First thing I'd do is get a 4"-6" bolt and screw it into the 6 o'clock position of the handle. The lock is a Yale L-2 with a sequence of LRLR 4321.

Nice safe and nice focused and clear pictures. I specially like the two with the focus appropriately set to the serial number and then to the dial numbers.

About opening it, if the lock still works, you have three options:
- You may be lucky and the combination may have been reset to a standard one, like 0-50 or 25-50-75, make a table with all the simple and common ones and try them all.
- Spend many days learning how to manipulate a lock and then try to open yours.
- Or you may have to call a specialized safe tech to manipulate it open or to drill and repair the safe. This will cost but it's the fastest option.

Good luck and let us know how the story goes on :)

Thanks femurat and bitbuster, after work today I will start what will most likely be a very long process. have read a lot of posts and with not much experience with safes im about make to another journey to learn something new.

so the sequence would be:
L-4, stop at 25.
R-3, stop at 50.
L-2, stop at 75.
R-1, to stop and open.?
or move all the combinations down 1?

I doubt if the old Victor's had a 'factory set' combo. I'm just stating that the sequence for a working combo is LRLR 4321.

Here is a list of Victor safe combinations from a book I have. The book is Techniques of Safecracking by Wayne B. Yeager. It was published by Loompanics and I cannot vouch for how accurate this info actually is, and don't want to waste your time dialing all day long, but hey it's only 100 combinations, and about an hour or so of your time. I hope one of them works.

This book as well as this link suggests R4-L3-R2-L1, but I trust bitbuster as well so you may want to try these combinations in both R4L3R2L1 and the L4R3L2R1 orders. https://www.hunker.com/12524532/how-to- ... ictor-safe
