Harbor Freight Padlock thoughts?

Harbor Freight Padlock thoughts?

Postby Phantom1016 » 25 Oct 2018 19:27

The padlocks at Harbor Freight are on clearance (around $4) and I bought a few of them for some low-security applications, but I thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience or knowledge of their quality? They are similar in shape to my favorite all-time lock, the Brinks 70mm disc lock. I am certain they are much less quality, but I was curious because I could see them being decent quality, or at least better than some more expensive locks out there.

Just thought I'd ask

Doesn't look to bad, for the price, a couple could be handy, looks like they're normally $7.99

Looks like the same low quality junk I see in storage room places all the time
if you don't value your belongings, why even bother to lock them up?

Bill, most locks are easy. An Abloy, Medeco, or other would be a better choice, if for Daughters little pink bike, it should be enough. You never hear crooks Targeting Little pink bikes. You may have too worry about rough and hardened little nine year olds with bolt cutters. If they loose the keys, you have to cut a cheap $4 lock. In reality kids get combos. $4 for a cheap lock that APPEARS good can sometimes be enough. At least it's not the low melt model. Wouldn't lock your Guns or Valuables with one.
$4 for a couple not bad, could be a practice lock?

I didn't see where the original poster said this was for a little girl's pink bike, but if you are going to throw your money in the trash, why even bother to lock things up?

Cheap locks only give the illusion of security, I think a security blanket would be cheaper

Good one, I was mostly saying, good practice lock if nothing else. I don use tension wrench on these disc, kinda small keyway, A small piece of tape on the shackle allows tensioning, without having in keyhole, allowing more room, the keyway is even similar. I was trying to tell him he didn't get screwed, he got a $4 lock. Poster you can apply turning pressure(counter lockwise)on shackle for tension, operate with key to verify direction of rotation to open. Thanks for help in the past.
