Another old yale safe

Can anyone help with background information, year, model, etc. Also am looking for the dialing combination. Thanks!

Like tension on the handle and is the lock binding?
Do you hear gears?
These things the helpers need to know.

Ok I will take a look at your posts. But I can tell you that the dial does not bind when I put tension on the handle.

i hear a bit of clicking when i spin it fast in both directions. not sure how to tell how many wheels there are

First of all, is there a drop zone? There is one point where rotating left comes a point of resistance and 10 numbers or so right of it there is a point of resistance when turning the dial right. Maybe (or probably) your lock doesn't have this. If it has choose a number opposite of this area. Otherwise take any one number.

Turn the dial five times or so in one direction to this number. Then change direction and turn to maybe 15 numbers before the chosen one. Then turn the dial quickly, but even over this number. You should then feel, that one wheel's pin comes into contact with another wheel's pin, by feeling the collision and/or by feeling an increase of resistance. Then turn the dial on until it is again roughly 15 numbers before the chosen one and repeat, repeat, repeat until you do not feel another wheel. Oh, and don't forget to count. You can repeat this procedure to be sure.

Did you find out any information on this Yale lock? About 6 months ago I bought a Victor Safe with what appears to be the same or similar Yale Lock. I have graphed and graphed and tried a stethoscope but not even sure that I am dialing it correctly. Thanks for any information that you or anyone else may have.

Hi Johnny. I haven't had much time to play with it. Married with kids and a job. Lol.

After I read Martin's post, I decided to look for a video on technique. I think understanding the lock is definitely the first step. I've begun to visualize the mechanism, the gates the fence the gears. I also came across more information about the graphing and resting etc. So I'm well on my way.

I'm not in a big rush though, pretty certain there's nothing inside. Found this one in a hidden space inside the house I bought last summer. The previous owners had family that cleaned this place out before we moved in so I'd really really be surprised if there was anything inside. I really want to open it so I can use it for my own valuables.

Everything you just said is exactly where I am at. Wife, two young boys and a job. My safe is also empty, I bought it from an out of business travel agency about 6 months ago ($75). The brother of the owner sold the desk that the combination was in and either tossed the combination emptying it or left it inside. They told me that it is definitely empty and I just want to use it for personal use. My timeline is a little more rushed than yours. I bet a few of my buddies that I could crack the combination by the beginning of May, LOL.

I do not have a dropzone on this one. So to be clear. Choose a random number. Turn 5 or so times until I get there and move 15 opposite. Will I feel the resistance as I approach the chosen number, pass the number or somewhere on the dial prior to reaching the chosen number again.

Hi. So trying to understand what I'm doing here. As I turned the dial I hear dragging on the wheel and eventually I get to 88 and there is a brief friction. Not sure if this is the first end of the drop zone or something else.

Is this the nose?
