Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Mosler 1913-1914 need combo

Postby gms38 » 2 Dec 2018 20:33

I need some help. I bought an old Mosler 1913 safe Handel id 252337. The door was open, and i had a lock smith scheduled to come over and re key the dial. I know very little about it, but before the locksmith could come over my neighbor came over and the door was shut on the safe. So he casually walked over and said "What a cool safe, is it open"? and then he spun the dial.......i freaked the fu*ck out. So needless to say its now locked. I know the last number to open it was 34 since you could turn it plus minus one number and it opened on 34.

1. How likely is it someone could open this using manipulation
2. How many digits is this safe, meaning is it 3 or 4 numbers to open this. 34 is the last but there could be 2 to 3 infront of it?
3. Will drilling it ruin the value?
4. If it has to be drilled and borescoped can it be fixed?
5. Can someone recommend a smith that could open this with manipulation in the Orlando area.

Any help from you guru's would be great . Thanks all

a pic is worth more than 1000 words, and serial numbers dont tell us anything other than year safe was made since Mosler went out of business in the late 90s and many of the records were lost.

Please post photos of the safe dial and handle so we can see distance from each other and a full front of the safe pic including all corners and the wheels, this is how we can ID what lock mechanism it is and how many numbers it was.

manipulation would be hard but a real pro could do it, drilling tiny hole and using a scope is very much fixable and would not ruin safe or detract from value.

how many times did idiot spin the dial and in which direction? have you spun it since? sometimes you can back dial to the drop in and open a safe if the dial hasnt been turned more than 360 in either direction.

Looking forward to your photos,

Someone spun the dial. A very famous story.

Here are two Orlando safe technicians

http://www.justsafes.net/

http://orlandolocksmiths.com/safes.html

manipulation or drilling and scoping will probably cost you a flat rate of anywhere of $300 to $900, so don't be surprised with their quote. It might take them 15 mins to open it, it might take 5 hours, safes are like that.
