Upstairs neighbours breaking in, please help

4.a) What is the threat level?
APARTMENT ON THE 1ST FLOOR in town (I live in a house with 3 apartments, the apartment below me is empty, and the one above me is where the burglars live - there are 2 of them, a mother and son from South America), I live on the corner of an intersection, so the building is very visible but since I live on the 1st floor it's hard for the neighbours to see what's going on inside)

4.b) What level of lock are you looking for?
I'm looking for something that is particularly resistant to picking (as I believe this is the method they use to break). They can't break the lock, because it would leave traces for the police to see.

My main concern is that they hardly ever leave any traces. I can usually tell when they've been in my apartment, because stuff has either disappeared, has been touched or has been moved, but they never leave any visible traces at the door. Police are not willing to investigate further until they see clear signs of burglary.

These crooks that I'm dealing with will usually steal one or two things at a time so it's easier to get away with (e.g. household supplies) and harder to report to police.

When I first moved in, the apartment door had a plain euro profile cylinder installed, I had it changed and replaced with an M&C Condor cylinder which they managed to pick easily after a few tries...

I can't get away for now, so I'm looking for ways to secure my home better and raise my chances of them getting caught.

If anyone knows of any clever (inexpensive) ways of catching a burglar breaking in, do let me know.

Their main concern is to not get caught or or leave any visible traces, so if anybody knows of simple ways I could have them leave traces, that would be incredibly useful.

PS I already have a wireless security system; but they have come up with a way to bypass it (I suspect they use some kind of signal jammer to keep the security sensor placed on my apartment door from signaling when they enter)

Electronic Security works great by a Quality installer. I use DSC Panels, has Jam detection. Can trigger an output/contacts, anything. Cameras work very well, as do pressure mats, photo beams. I install mostly quality camera systems, also low dollar solutions Over here Home Depot has Ring Doorbell Camera for $100. Has 1 month free cloud storage, IR, and will text you if you have motion. Even if they steal the camera, video will be in the cloud for future use. Need WiFi to work. If they disable, you are out of luck, other cameras have SD card for recording like the Micro Seven, will send alerts. May want to check out Smoke Detector Cameras. Can help more if needed. If I was criminal, I would check out their house. I'm not, so I can't.

If somebody is actually visiting your house while you're away, maybe is not entering trough the door. Make sure all the windows are closed before leaving.

If you want a lock that they won't pick, Abloy may be a good choice.

As stratmando already told you, a video surveillance system is your best option. This way you can prove what you think may happen.

Why would someone go to all the trouble of breaking in to steal a few household supplies? If you have never seen any evidence how do you know they are breaking in? How do you know it is these people in particular?

Some woman had 7 locks on her door and she still thought burglars were breaking in. She had an eighth lock installed but the break in's continued. She asked the locksmith what else she could do. He suggested locking only four of the locks when she went out. She was delighted with the results. She thought the burglar picked all the locks but still could not get in because he picked some 'locked'. Problem solved as far as she was concerned.

If you don't have a carbon monoxide detector in your flat then get one ASAP. I'm not saying you are wrong here but carbon monoxide poisoning can have some very odd effects on people.

Since you believe that your South American neighbors are adept at circumventing high tech security, go low tech. Take two pieces of cellophane tape and tape a hair from your door to the exterior molding when you leave. +1 on the CO detector.

I understand these cameras are dirt cheap but I would not trust them.
Not only are they mostly terrible quality they them selves lack essential security.
These camera's are mostly unprotected while being connected to the web.

It's quite a lot of effort to lock these camera's down.

sorry man but your opinion does not match my experience with the cameras I linked to. My buddy has these at his house to watch his basement man cave and I was blown away at the fact they are 1080p, see at night and are in color with enough lights on, really good picture, easy to use app, push notification alerts, and on your home wifi they are very safe, it doesn't automatically make it so someone port scanning your neighborhood can just remote into your cameras and see what you're doing in your own house.

I get that there has been a lot of buzz about IoT devices such as cheap Hik Vision cctv systems using upnp to do NATs on port 80 on peoples home routers and they are shipped with admin/admin or admin/password as default credentials, but this is not one of those DVRs/cameras/ even though it may look like a crap plastic camera, but I assure you it's very good. I was very surprised myself when my buddy showed me the live video because they do look like plastic toys so I get where you are coming from.

Hate to break it to you, Sleutelbortje, but the Abloy Protec 2 has been picked. One of our members here (Huxleypig) has made a tool and picks them. No damage.
