Padlock Trouble

Postby EvoRed » 30 Nov 2004 9:58

I had trouble with a Squire SS50 padlock today on a steel container. The long and the short of it was that the one key available didn't push all the way into the cylinder as it had been bent trying to open it (whether the lock wouldn't open initially as they claimed and the key was then bent is anyone's guess).

Straightened the key out as best I could but still couldn't open it, although it then went in fully. Most options were out as it had a steel guard welded over the padlock making even placing the key in difficult, not to mention trying to pick it, etc...

Any suggestions to what could have been wrong with this lock that others may have come across? The lock was only two weeks old. You can see it at the bottom of the page here.

I would like to learn as much as possible about such problems encountered.
