ABUS 88/50

Postby einherjer » 6 Jan 2019 12:29

Hi
Can anyone tell me what I`m doing wrong?
Been struggeling with a Abus 88/50. I know I`m in all the true gates (at least pretty sure) but it still wont open.
I even tok it apart and then used my dd-pick, just to confirm.
This lock has 9 discs: 9 is zero and 1 is butterfly, the 7 in between is standard
I just dont get it!
I use a zero disc to tension when I turn the butterfly, even have 3 different dd-picks
Very sure there`s a trick to it, if someone knows what it is.
I really appreciate if you could help me

Can we get a picture of the lock front and another of the keyway, please? It might help us troubleshoot.

That's not how it works.. Please post your question and pictures here, we're not gonna run around to other forums to help you, c'mon now. If you want help and advice, you cant be too busy to upload a photo. (upload your pic to Imgur or tinypic or flickr or facebook and post a URL link here.)

Jaakko make a nice tool for these back in the day, I remember using it and there would be the feel of metal on metal friction until suddenly a small pop and the feel of nothing but air. That was the true gate.

Make sure you are not in between gates or working on 2 gates at the same time, I can't vouch for the tolerances on the tools you are using.

Also, the Abus is going to be of better quality than the made in china disc detainer padlocks that those tools are probably intended for.

Im sorry about that. (was thinking about it, in the back of head)
But now I see really how stupid it was.

I have one of Jaakko's picks, and it does work well.

Belive it or not, but I opened it on my first try yesterday.
There`s was no special trick needed.
What I found out is on my custom "cheap chinese dd-pick", the tension cut is about 1mm to deep, so when setting the butterfly disc it also moved the first disc. (just a bit, but it was enough to make the sidebar not fall in)

Reason: fixed your image. the [image] command doesnt know how to display the entire imgur website, it needs the exact path to the image file embedded in that album.
