Safe Deposit Box Locks

Postby nothumbs » 19 Jan 2019 18:35

There is a very small chance I may have salvage access to a decommissioned bank's safe deposit room, or at least the locks from same. I have a lot of questions and no answers and am asking the community. There currently are no keys for these, or rather there is a very large collection of keys with no indication of which key goes to which box. I don't yet know the lock mechanism. Here's what I'd like to know.

Is there value in such locks and if so, what would you imagine the value to be?

Would a locksmith be able, if in possession of one of the locks, to make the common key? Would having that for each lock increase the value of each lock, and if so, by about how much?

Would the locks be more valuable if still attached to the door of each safe deposit box? If so is it possible/easy to remove the entire door?

What else would I want to know about this project should it be possible?

Thanks in advance for your input; particularly since this only has a small chance of occurring.
It's a good day when I learn something new.

Ah, never mind, I just googled safe deposit box locks to check pricing, and they are quite inexpensive so it seems this project would not be worth the effort. Also explains why they have not been salvaged so far.

Unless its an antique out of production lock, Its not worth the time as you have found.

Modern SD locks are designed to be destroyed to open with no key and are fairly inexpensive,

They have the value of unclean scrap metal. We just trashed a nest of them.
