Second number on master combination locks?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Second number on master combination locks?

Postby Hyperadox » 24 Jan 2019 9:13

I'm able to get the first and the third no problem, but I always have trouble getting the second number. The internet hasn't been entirely helpful on the subject. Does anyone have any tips for this? I'd much appreciate it!

Thanks

You can try about 40 combinations, I prefer to shim open, look down shackle hole and determine whole combo. Wanted to try by feeling the stops, writing the numbers down, dealing with half numbers, then seems like different methods on different years, seems like a pain? I may try again, seems like a lot of work. I take it you have seen some YouTube Videos?

For sure. The half numbers on the third number aren't much a pain, and feeling for the first number isn't that bad with practice. It seems that no one agrees on how to get the second number, and none of them work xD

Have you tried a lock with known combo?

So here's the story. I used to practice a lot a couple years ago (I still had trouble with the second number, but I couldn't remember what I did before.) I had about 10-15 combination locks sitting in storage when I left on a 2 year trip, and I threw away all the combinations to force myself to relearn it when I got back.

I understand that there are a lot of math algorithms that you can used to narrow it down to 8 results or something like that. I really want to avoid those. They're like math magic tricks that work every single time. They might be called magic tricks, but there's no skill or slight of hand involved. To me they're not magic.

It's possible to get the second number by feeling it out right?
