Which ILCO blank fits this Sentry fire box keyway?

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

I am trying to get a key for this Sentry 1170? fire box, ordered the key by code online, but it does not insert into the lock.. The key I got is an Ilco 1626 SS4 double sided wafer lock key

Here is what my container looks like: https://www.safeandvaultstore.com/produ ... urity-file

From the photos it looks good to me. Is really the key way the blocking point? Or is something else the problem? A blocked tumbler? Can you pick the lock?

I *think* I figured out what the issue is but before I spoil the surprise let's see what our locksmiths and locksport members think the issue might be.

Sentry also makes a slightly different key besides the SS4, but in my experience both should go into your keyhole

Is the lock already picked, preventing the tumblers from moving?

Best I can tell, the tip of the original key is broken off inside and pushed in deep hiding behind a wafer. Tried to use my HPC extractors and could not get it out. removed lock from the safe, but cam is peened on and would have to pry it off in order to dump lock.

I first got suspicious when I could turn the plug with a flat screw driver, but only about 70 degrees, not the full 90 required to retract the cam.

Trying to get the fire "safe" usable for a friend for document fire protection. It may end up with a hasp and Master padlock on it just so it stays shut.

will post an update if I get the key tip out, and I welcome any tips or advice on removing the key, which seems to have rotated or fallen over inside so it wont just slide out using the warding as rails.

Thanks

Drill a tiny hole in the back of the plug through the peen. Use a paper clip to push the key tip out while using a pick to move the tumblers to allow the key to pass. Had to do that a couple of times.
