How does Smartkey Cradle work?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

How does Smartkey Cradle work?

Postby stratmando » 28 Jan 2019 10:40

Currently I can dissemble lock and reset manually by aligning the slots.
Also can determine Key Code(depths) without dissembly.
Seems like if Cradle can reset without dissembly, you should be able to duplicate cradles actions without dissembly. A comb pick seems like a tool that could help accomplish this?

The reset cradle simultaneously pushes all the wafers to the correct height & turns the cylinder to the reset position. You could also reset with the Better Resetter https://www.lockpicks.com/better-resett ... rtkey.html
Just enter 'better resetter' in their search box
Or you could file a steel key into a comb shape, just depends on how much free time ya got

The Kwikset reset tools are on e-bay, some are reasonably priced--unfortunately if the cylinder isn't in it's correct position when you turn the reset tool it can strip out--be careful, some of these tools being sold on E-bay are already broken

Makes sense now. By using the resetter, it places all wafers flush, allowing reset slider to move,
A ground down comb pick could work, a well as a comb pick and drill bits or precise spacers to push all down to same position. Next chance, think I will try with a regular comb, slowly pressing down while applying pressure on slider, if it slides it worked.
You can decode a Kwikset with a modified reset tool. Use depth keys and a modified reset tool ground Dow so it is flush with body. Great if Customer lost keys to 15 Smart Key locks. Prevents dissembly of all. Thanks again for your help.

The cradle just presses all the wafers flush & turns the cylinder, you still have to insert the reset tool
I actually prefer the cradle to the better resetter, but they both work
