This economic alarm will fix all your break in problems https://www.defensedevices.com/shotgun- ... gnal1.html

Of course loading it with anything but a blank cartridge is forbidden

Or make your own for half the price https://www.instructables.com/id/Perime ... ooby-Trap/

Might be worth looking into modifying a crappy Kwikset deadbolt with a construction core to work like the HINES System. By replacing the top pins in 5 out of 6 cylinders with T pins and master wafers, you can make a deadbolt that can be turned by 32 different sheerlines but 31 of them will jam the lock and make it only openable with a drill or by dissassembling the lock from the inside. They only get one chance to get it right.

Here is a video of how to do the mod on a kwikset by LockPickingLawyer:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7JlgKCUqzA0

Found all parts required for it on CLK Supplies

Not mentioned in the video is that if you have a right-hand swinging door, the mod wont work as the pins do not turn past the construction holes to unlock. However, if you have a right-hand swing door, I found you can make it work by installing the deadbolt upside down (bible pointed down, have to flip all door hardware upside down), reversing the direction the key needs to be turned and making it work.

Downside is if you are successful, you will then be locked out. But so will they and you have your “trace” to file your police report and people will stop thinking you are imagining things. Maybe keep a cordless drill in your car with 3/8” bit so you can destroy the lock and get in without calling locksmith. Plenty of youtube videos about drilling kwiksets. And maybe a spare lock while you are at it.

The only covert way I’ve heard of to bypass would maybe be a core spinner or an extremely skilled picker who got it right the first time but they would have to know the lock was modified. Or I suppose they could drill it, go to home depot and buy, rekey and install another identical one but thats getting pretty crazy.

Would be interested to hear what the lockpicking badasses on the site think of the idea. I’m just a clueless DIY lock noob myself. Also, curious if the same “T pin for “F” Series Cylinder” LockPickingLawyer used for the mod could be used to modify a more drill resistant Home Depot Schlage ANSI Grade I deadbolt the same way or if the pins are different diameters?

They don't use cylindrical prep deadbolts much in Europe, No Kwikset for sure.

I don't consider the HD Schlage to be Grade 1, to me they are a Grade 2. The Schlage B600 is their real Grade 1 lock. If you had them side by side you would immediately see the difference. The B60 series sold at HD is very similar to the B500 series Grade 2 commercial lock.

MB_43 wrote:1.) What are you looking for?
LOCK CYLINDER

2.a) If you know for sure what is the general type you should mention that too.
EURO PROFILE 30/30 (resistant to picking)

2.b) What part of the world are you located in?
EUROPE/BELGIUM

3.) What is your budget?
+/- 150 EUR

4.a) What is the threat level?
APARTMENT ON THE 1ST FLOOR in town (I live in a house with 3 apartments, the apartment below me is empty, and the one above me is where the burglars live - there are 2 of them, a mother and son from South America), I live on the corner of an intersection, so the building is very visible but since I live on the 1st floor it's hard for the neighbours to see what's going on inside)

4.b) What level of lock are you looking for?
I'm looking for something that is particularly resistant to picking (as I believe this is the method they use to break). They can't break the lock, because it would leave traces for the police to see.

My main concern is that they hardly ever leave any traces. I can usually tell when they've been in my apartment, because stuff has either disappeared, has been touched or has been moved, but they never leave any visible traces at the door. Police are not willing to investigate further until they see clear signs of burglary.

These crooks that I'm dealing with will usually steal one or two things at a time so it's easier to get away with (e.g. household supplies) and harder to report to police.

(5.) Are there any special requirements?
[b]particularly resistant to picking and hard to pick (remember these people are originally grom South American origin - I suspect they may be Cuban) I am mentioning this because it could help me buy a lock that could be hard for them to pick

When I first moved in, the apartment door had a plain euro profile cylinder installed, I had it changed and replaced with an M&C Condor cylinder which they managed to pick easily after a few tries...

I can't get away for now, so I'm looking for ways to secure my home better and raise my chances of them getting caught.

If anyone knows of any clever (inexpensive) ways of catching a burglar breaking in, do let me know.

Their main concern is to not get caught or or leave any visible traces, so if anybody knows of simple ways I could have them leave traces, that would be incredibly useful.

Thanks in advance.

Love from Belgium :).

PS I already have a wireless security system; but they have come up with a way to bypass it (I suspect they use some kind of signal jammer to keep the security sensor placed on my apartment door from signaling when they enter)

Worried about picking and want a lock that prevents this there are a few you might be interested in. 1. The mul-t-lock MT5+ 2. Medeco Biaxial 3. Abus pfaffenhain 4. Schlage Primus (make sure the seller says primus because its common to see people get the cheaper and less secure schlage everest mixed up) 5. Evva 3ks or 4ks
These locks wont be sold at your local hardware store but you can get usually get one from your local lock smith if they don't have one then they can order one for you. All but maybe the Evva 3ks should be easy to get from your locksmith. The schlage primus is the only lock that I don't believe you can get in euro cylinder. Since your in Belgium you might be able to find a Ruko euro cylinder, and those are also good but make sure you get one of their higher end models with all the anti pick technology. If you do some searching you might get lucky and find one of these locks used at a good price. Now if you want to catch them you should install a motion activated camera to catch them in the act.
