Problems Fitting an S+G Lock to a Safe

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

you've mentioned editing before recently.. Editing is turned off and was done so years before my time because people would talk sh*t and then come back and delete what they said, or someone would go in and delete all their posts and leave weird holes in threads, so the admins before us turned it off.

I tried once to turn it on for 30 minutes to help people fix spelling mistakes or add things they forgot to type before hitting Submit, but it has to be done manually per each of the 48 sub forums and takes way too much time to do and test. maybe one day..

Looks like key may interfere with Fence?

The spline key is just put in temporarily, until I figure what's going on w the orientation of the cam. I'll put it in securely once I understand that, and get a few parts that Raymond is sending me.

Any ideas as to why, on this VD lock, the "correct" position of the spline appears to be LH? At LH, cam goes from the last no. to 0, and then draws up the bolt. Just as designed too. It's just that the lock mounted Vertical Down (VD), not LH.

Does it have to do with the twin channel 8500 spline, being used on a 6730 lock?

A dial ring and dial is a commonly sold item for companies that deal in safes. A bushing or a spline key isn't. I don't know if I would trust mix and match parts on a safe when a complete new lock is not expensive.

MartinHewitt wrote:My guess is, the 8500 dial has it's groove not at 50. I don't have a 8500 dial here, but a 2937 lock. The drive cam of the 2937 has the VU/VD groove, where the R6730 drive cam has the RH groove.

PS: I think the 8500 series dial has grooves at 25 and 75, while the standard dial has only one at 50.
