From what I have seen the mailboxes that Home Depot sells do not use a US Postal approved mailbox lock,
instead they use a cheap crummy cam lock, which is why when my client wants a new key we just replace the lock

If the customer is willing to pay a service call that is always an option. However most are just looking for a replacement key. We have a shop and it stays open for 9 hours a day. If I can find a blank that works then I will buy it as a service to my customers. We like to pride ourselves in being able to duplicate almost any key. Yes, it doesn't earn as much as a service call, but when someone posts on GOOGLE that they had been to other locksmiths etc. and nobody could help them but we were able to take care of it. That is worth more than a service call, far more.

Just seems like maybe there is a reason why the US Postal Service cares that the locks be up to their standard--
I don't suppose you care about your customer having their mailbox lock opened by an unauthorized person, cause you worship the almighty dollar, I'm guessing...
