Assa twin combi-how to

Postby locking bad » 30 Jun 2019 10:22

Hi everyone,im new on this forum so if i have done something wrong on this topic i ask to the moderator to forgive me(i have no idea yet how to use it and i haven't read all the rules).

I opened this topic because i'm struggling with my 1st assa twin combi and also with all the info and the videos online im still stuck at the beginning,i moved on more secure locks from only a couple of months so i just stepped in at the intermediate level, with a ruko cutaway that i ve made i managed to understand the assa pins and after a week i saw my first opening on 5 pins assa and ruko so i decided to buy an assa twin combi as new challenge.

After several days without an opening i decided to take out all the pins and think about the sidebar and finger pins only but unfortunately nothing to do..in first place what tool can i use for the manipulation of those pins?i tried from the entire set of flags for dimple locks to a knife to a standard hook but nothing to do,with the cylinder out with the knife and with a modified flag i can touch and spin those finger pins but if i reassemble the lock with the cylinder into the core that movement its no longer possible except for the modified flag which unfortunately its so thin that i cant manage to push enough the pins without break it(the flag i mean).

The second thing is,where to start? From sidebar first and then the pins and if i pick open either do i have any movement on the core who allowes me to understand to skip to the key pin/sidebar?and last question is for the sidebar do i need to apply light or heavy tension??i hope to receive some help on this forum since there are many amazing lock pickers here, many thanks!

Edited to make this thing readable. GWiens2001

I have to say that its ok to be new, but how did you decide to post this question in the Locksport Local Meetings section when there is like 5 other places that are probably better suited?

please help the mod and admin team have less house keeping work on the weekend, thank you.

I will move your question to Locks.

Also you may consider some paragraphs, its hard for some to read a big wall of text.

This is truly a high security lock, and not easily picked even by the best of us. As a high security lock, discussion of picking it is limited to the advanced forums.

What I can tell you is that you have the right idea of breaking it down to learning the finger pins and the key pins separately. When they are both in the lock, which do you pick first? The ones that are binding. I also highly suggest you make a tension wrench/turning tool which snugly fits at the top of the keyway. Without a properly fitting tension wrench, you are pretty much wasting your time.

Learning to pick the high security locks with their tighter tolerances can really improve your feel and improve your picking of the lesser security locks, even if you don't get any opens on the high security lock.

Glad to help. The top of keyway prybar is a good choice, as long as it fits without wobbling in the keyway. If not, you can use music wire or an allen (hex) wrench and file it to fit the keyway. I have found that the tension wrench is at least as important, or more so, than the picks. My kit(s) have far more tension tools than picks.
