This is what the keyway looks like in new ASSA locks... I've mostly dealt with older models, so I don't know how long this has been around (they seem to change the keyway for every new model). Doesn't leave you much room for the pick anyway... the key pins are all but resting on the warding.
The store was Bauhaus, which is actually a German/Swiss company, and it's perhaps more than just a hardware store. They sell everything for building/home improvement, including doors, and of course locks. I guess it's something like Home Depot in the US.
