Help! Gutting a FAB 200RSG

Postby jercx » 21 Jul 2019 23:37

hi all,

looking for info on how to gut a FAB 200RSG euro profile, half cylinder. i was able to remove the tail piece, and i have the key. so i put in the key, rotated it about 45deg and inserted a follower. the core wouldn't budge!

it seems that something inside was preventing the core from sliding out, although the core was freely turning inside the cylinder.

troubleshooting done:
already used a core shim, shimmed the driver pins, core still wouldn't come out.

asking the community if anyone knows what's up with the core and which devious mechanisms assa abloy FAB has put into this cylinder.

info on the lock: http://www.fab.cz/RSG

I haven't gutted that particular make and model, but I think you need to rotate it 180 degrees and use a special tool and follower (with a slit) to hold the pins down.

They are included in this set: https://www.ukbumpkeys.com/collections/lock-tools-locksmith-tools/products/12pc-lock-disassembly-tool-set but they can probably be found elsewhere as well. (This particular set can be found on various sites, including Amazon, but watch out for the price, it varies a lot.)

i have this kit, and yes, it comes with a pinning shoe. it has limited use in this case due to the fact that the core/plug is prevented from being pulled out by an internal mechanism

Did you remove the c-clip? It's close to the cam. Some locks you can remove it with two small flat head screwdrivers and only get a few cuts on your fingers. Others require a tool to cut the old clip, and a new one to re assemble the lock. If you post a picture of your lock from the side we'll see which model it is.

Cheers :)

Here's someone picking and gutting a FAB 200RS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YvF8g7v4MQ
Unless there's something different with the RSG model, it shouldn't be a problem. However, from the clip is seems the plug has some nasty grooves near the end. Did it move at all when you turned it 45 degrees and tried to pull it? In that case there's a possibility that some driver pin got caught there...
