Govt Electronic Safe Locks

On Evil-Bay I see an add for a new old stock Mas-Hamilton X-07 electronic safe lock, normally available only to govt agencies.
It's my understanding that these locks were phased out for a newer model, because the X-07 is getting too old and unreliable. I changed my old Navy safe from an electronic X-07 to a mechanical S+G lock, because it's solid over the long haul.

I'm strangely attracted to the add, but...thrown by the electronic thing. I trust mechanical locks more.

Am I wrong?

I agree with you. Mechanical locks are more reliable.

My vote is for mechanical locks... Much more reliable in my opinion.

The X07 (Current version X10) was designed for a very specific use in the government.

If you want security go for the X09 or X10. I would stay from the earlier models.

If you want reliability and aren't as worried about security go for a mechanical group 2.

If you want security and reliability go with mechanical and manipulation proof.

The auction ended, sold for about $70 total, inc shipping. I had a govt electronic X-07 lock before. Worked fine by me, but at over 30 yrs old it's service life was coming to an end. I replaced it w an S+G mechanical lock before the electronic lock failed and I got into the shit.

The electronic locks are fine, if you really need that level of security. I'm fine w a quality mechanical lock.
