Pls recommend a FP/WP portable safe box - for documents

Forgot how to dial the combination on that old safe? Think you got the right numbers but the handle is stuck? What safe should you buy? Ask your safe questions here!

Pls recommend a FP/WP portable safe box - for documents

Hello,

Can you please recommend a portable safe box ~0.20 cubic feet, something like this

https://amzn.to/2KEPoVY

I want a portable safe box which is fireproof and waterproof, that I can carry with me while travelling internationally, and carry my important documents and put it in this box and then inside the hotel safe.

I worry about any potential water or fire damage in case of a calamity, and I presume most hotels and or residential safes are not water/fire proof.

Or carry it with me when I am making long work trips and need to carry important documents in paper format.

Obviously the weight should be on the lighter side. I look forward to your recommendations.

Thank you

James

Would a fireproof/waterproof bag work for your needs?

https://www.amazon.com/JUNDUN-Fireproof-Document-Waterproof-Resistant/dp/B07P2WB48X/

a lot lighter to carry on a trip.

Here are some water proof document bags, that you could even layer your waterproofing by putting one of these bags inside the fire proof bag.

hope this helps,

@squelchtone

Yes a fire/water proof bag would work, but are there any good quality ones out there? or are they all the same?

Thank you

I dont know, perhaps check the reviews from all the bags on amazon and see which has the mpst 4 or 5 stars and well written reviews

maybe store a small fire bag in a bigger fire bag in the hotel safe?

there seems to be a bunch of review videos on youtube.

if the hotel burns down, it doesnt seem the bags do much, but if they were in a safe as well, that may offer extra protection.

is this a passport or cash or bearer bonds you're protecting?

It will be my travel documents when travelling as well as some backup credit card, phone, and maybe some work documents like id cards etc. for occasional use

just a thought..

when the head of my organization briefs us on physical threats to our facility he likes to use two words. Possibility vs Probability.

Are we at risk of lets say a person with a gun walking into reception? the possibility certainly exists. what's the actual probability of this happening? like 1 in a million. But we still do drills and have procedures for that 1 remote chance. What is the possibility of your documents getting wet or burned while traveling? I guess its possible. Theft probably much more likely by a maid in your room, but the probability of them getting wet or burned in hotel fire, very low. Is having a bag or safe still a good idea? of course.

@squelchtone

This is a very interesting point, probability vs possibility. I have heard that many governments prepare for very low probability but high consequence events for example a asteroid strike, or something like that.

You raise an interesting point about placing valuable items in a hotel...apart from the hotel safe, where else can one place valuable items such as documents?

Thank you

keep them on you at all times using something called a passport neck wallet with rfid blocking.
