Rooftop cargo lock 3021

Postby bat9899 » 25 Sep 2019 13:47

I am looking for a replacement key or just a blank for my rooftop cargo carrier. It has the number 3021 on the lock. I see it is available in the U.S. but I live in Canada. The shipping charges from the U.S. is $20 so I really want to find something in the GTA in Ontario.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What brand of roof rack cargo carrier is yours?

ebay search for 3021 key came up with a Sears X-Cargo Roof Rack Key

https://www.ebay.com/itm/SEARS-X-CARGO-Roof-Rack-KEY-Karrite-Ski-Bike-xcargo-Carrier-Skyline-Sportrack-XL/133080581975

make sure to drop down and select 3021 before purchasing.

I bought the carrier used and there are no labels or info regarding the make. The key on eBay is from the U.S. so the shipping cost would not be feasible.

The carrier is about 20 years old but it is very similar to the Sears X-Cargo rooftop carrier.

I do key impressioning but I have no idea which blank to buy but a replacement key would be preferable.

the blank should be X132, but nobody on ebay.ca is selling one.

How much did the other seller want for shipping to Canada or are you assuming it is gong to be expensive? I just shipped a bunch of locks to a friend in Canada and it cost $14 to ship but that's life.

on second thought, maybe it isnt an X132.. might be an LF12

here is another seller https://www.etrailer.com/p-THKEYN3021.html

Have you considered going to a local locksmith and having them cut you a key.

That is an option but can a locksmith provide a key just based on the lock number or do I have to bring in the carrier to his shop?

They type 3021 into their HPC CodeSource or Framon Genericode software and it tells them the key cuts to make. The blank they pull off the peg board will be based on experience or the software tells them what to use Probably a Thule keyway blank since they probably made the carrier for Sears.

Here's what the software looks like:
https://www.framon.com/index.php/project/genericode/

Bring the carrier to the shop so you can test the key out in the parking lot in case the shoulder stops need some filing or some other issue like wrong key blank etc.

Good idea recommending the locksmith shop visit GWiens2001!

Locksmith can do this easily, but it will cost probably $20. You could try and purchase a couple of blanks and impression it if you can't swing $20.

I would like to impression a blank but I have no idea which blank to get. I spoke with a locksmith and he said he is unsure which blank I would need. He suggested I bring in the lock and he would try to find a match but I was hoping to do it myself ie the impressioning

X132 blank. I make these keys weekly.

You make the blanks? Cool. Do you cast them, mill them, or do you have a high pressure press?
