Correct. And turning it anti-clockwise (counter clockwise on this side of the pond) a few times also brings it back to the center of the maze.

Hopefully to add to these explanations: here are the internals of a gas cap Gougler model I have. There are no reference points on the cap itself, so the combination begins by turning left to stop. Full combo is LS-R9-7-2.

It's not clear how the numbering on the labyrinth disk (205) corresponds to the final combination. The top bar is the locking mechanism in this model.
