One of my best friends has had a desk in a rental storage unit for years. He finally moved into a new place and decided to set up a home office, so he moved the desk home. The desk has four locks and he was unable to find the keys. He knows I have an interest in lock picking and suggested that I try to open it. While I was on the phone with him he found a pile of old keys and tried them out. He was eventually able to get into all four locks. The weird thing was that all four locks were keyed differently. Not just that that they were keyed differently, but each key would only fit its key and would not fit the keyway of the other three at all. In fact, three of them were pin tumbler keys and one was a double sided wafer lock. Pretty weird.

If you feel comfortable doing so, look at the individual locks and order a full set of KA (Keyed Alike) locks. Then replace them all, and the lock will be keyed alike.

Good idea. That would be some nice experience to have. I'll see what he thinks about it.
