An OP on imgur posted a photo of their new house key and of the house, and someone chimed in that this is a bad idea since key cuts as well as which key blank can be trivially determined from a photo. Finding the house on google street view is also easy enough to do if the person leaked enough personal info on social media. Link to original post: http://imgur.com/gallery/ooYh25LAnyways, here is a screen cap of the imgur commentor asking to be called out here.. because they dont believe such a method is realistic.. *image updated to show thread* Squelchtone

Interesting. I'm surprised how long the original thread went on, for the initial house purchase. I couldn't find the "calling out" comment you put up, perhaps it's buried or maybe it was pulled.

*I just updated the inline image, for some reason when on mobile it doesn't keep the thread cohesive. the person's comment was hidden in Bad Comments because it has been downvoted to the bottom of the stack.

Thanks Squelch.
He's being something of an ass. How did you even find the thread? It's in New Zealand or something?

Well, I can be a petty ass too but yeah, he is. The thread is on imgur, a site where people from around the world post photos, memes, and stories and strangers comment on them and give up votes or down votes.

I'm so tempted, and to find the exact street address of the house as well, but I dont have a beef with the original poster of the key photo, and don't want to cause them grief for something they did without knowing the consequences.

Ok, my bad. I thought that was the OP, but I see now that it wasn't. So it was just some random jerk who should mind his own business... then just ignoring the troll is the right course of action I think.

Depending on the lock key duplication from a photo is trivial. I've taught people in half an hour to do it themselves. I think it's a fun addition to a lockpicking village.
Too bad people make a problem of us making people security aware.

Sort of makes me wish the troll had posted a pic of his key as well, I'm sure there would be several people here eager to do what pemlock suggested for him. And of course, make sure you stamp his new key "COPY 3" or something, just to maintain a bit of extra pucker factor.

Far more evil - send the key in a letter addressed to his neighbor, and ask them to deliver it. Gordon

Maybe he has a vested interest in people not being security conscious. Gordon
