Old Yale Pad Lock

Postby JackCF » 11 Jan 2020 16:30

I have this old Yale pad lock and it has a 2167 stamped on the end of the core.

Is this an easy lock to pick for a beginner?
Any other info anyone can pass along about this lock would be cool too.
Thanks.

Definitely an antique both the padlock and the key.

Probably not the easiest for a beginner to learn to pick on.

Due to its value to a collector, I would pick something easier like a Master number three.

Any idea how much a collector would pay for it? Just curious....

I have a Master #3 and I haven't been able to open it yet even by raking but I can rake open the dead bolt on my front door. Sigh.....

Please don't pick the deadbolt on your front door! We don't advocate or recommend people pick locks they rely upon.

Not as much as you're thinking. For us lock hounds that is an antique, using it to learn how to pick and in the process ruining the pins and springs inside would be a real shame. Keep that lock on your shelf to admire. Maybe when you get good, you can then try to clean out thst keyway and pick it once or twice just for fun.

To see how much they sell for, go on ebay, click Advanced Search Options and type in Yale padlock and then check the box that says Completed or Sold listings.

There is a wide range of prices on these things. One I found that looked like mine was going for $39.95.
Not going to sell it though.
Thanks.
