Almont Re-key cylinder won't pull out

Pull up a chair, grab a cold one, and talk about life as a locksmith. Trade stories of good and bad customers, general work day frustrations, any fun projects you worked on recently, or anything else you want to chat about with fellow locksmiths.

Almont Re-key cylinder won't pull out

Almont Re-key padlocks are an old favorite of mine, I pick them up when I see them for next to nothing. I brought one home from a flea market yesterday, got it open & the cylinder turned all the way past the internal stop, stuck in my pin retention tool, and the cyclinder won't come out. Even with the retention tool not inserted and in all positions, it's in there solid as a rock (turns easily and otherwise feels normal, just won't pull out). I'll spend some time with it later this evening, but I thought I'd throw it out there to those who have more experience that I. Any ideas?

It should pop right out.

Maybe put a small punch thru the head of the key to hold it in a vise. Then with your retention wire in place tap on the padlock with a mallet and see if it just needs some convincing.

Have you given it a good bashing against a block of wood to help it out yet?
If you don't have the key there isn't much to hold onto and some locks are lubed with lithium
grease which has a tendency to turn into paste
