Foley Belsaw 200- motor

Postby tori_rae28 » 28 Jan 2020 15:41

I recently purchased a FB 200 but didn't realize it didn't have the motor till I received it in the mail. So my question is (and i don't know much but) what rpm does a little motor for that run at? Does it have to be a motor meant for the fb key machine? Or can I repurpose a similar sized random motor. Can it be converted somehow to be battery operated so that it can be mobile and used in situations where a power outlet isn't available? Knew to the hobby and know next to nothing for mechanic? Knowledge. Anything shared is better then nothing shared. Thanks.

I actually have a Foley Belsaw key machine motor in my van that turns a wire wheel for deburring keys, unfortunately it doesn't have a plaque on it anywhere denoting it's specs. It's plugged into my 400 watt inverter and it works great. I have used the Keedex K-5 12vt dc motor and it's pretty great but the last time I bought one they were cheaper

I had a FB motor crap out and I replaced it with a sewing machine motor and it worked just fine.

The plate on my FB200 motor says it's a 90W at 5000 RPM. It is an actual Foley Belsaw motor. If you're serious about using it though stepping up to a bit larger motor is probably a good idea, the stock one you have to take it real easy with the deeper cuts especially on a thick key blank. These days I do most of my cutting on a Framon #2 code machine.
