Master key for Abloy 330

Postby bobajoblad » 5 Feb 2020 4:45

I have been given half a dozen of the short shackle locks and i have no keys or no cards for them, are they now just paper weights or can i buy a "master key" that will open them, I am based in the UK.

No such thing as a master key that will open all Abloy 330 padlocks.

They are more than paperweights. They make lovely decorations for a Christmas tree or on a shelf. :)

If they are keyed alike, you could destroy one lock to read the key bitting from the discs. And have new keys made for the rest. If they are keyed differently you have, as you said, merely paper weights.

If I recall the 330 assembly correctly, it should be possible to destroy only the shackle (and perhaps some limited damage to part of the lock body) and still be able to remove and decode the core. This being the open forum however, I can't post exact details of how. This attack would require a good deal of machining skill and probably at least a quality milling machine.

Of course, even if the method I'm thinking of is carried out successfully, decoding and then cutting a key is non trivial.

They'd be some heavy earrings. You could always try selling them, even without a key there might be a collector or two willing to take them off your hands if the price is right, or even someone wanting to try their hand at picking without shelling out for a new one (and then having to worry about messing it up). ;-)
