Old S&G found

Hi,
I recently discovered a S&G safe under a slat of a kitchen cupboard that I accidentally dislodged in my house.
I have owned my house for 2 and a half years now and I had no idea this existed until now.
It is cemented into the floor as I can't move it and I am guessing it was done by one of the previous owners as it's a bit of a DIY job.
There's even a light switch installed under the cupboard to light the area where the safe is installed.

Naturally curiosity has gotten the better of me, therefore I was wondering if someone could help solve this mystery?

All good if not, I understand the information I have given is very minimal and since it's cemented in I am guessing it's find out the code or get some heavy machinery onto it (which I prefer not to do as I'd like to keep it in tact).
My sister is a midwife and she has lent me a stethoscope, but I have no idea what I'm doing so here I am...

Thought it wouldn't hurt to throw this out there and get some thoughts, but no stress if it doesn't go anywhere.

*side note, the sticker has been blurred because it has information of a company that I am guessing supplied the safe? I tried to call the number but the business is no longer operating.

Possibly contact the former owner to see if they still have the combination?

A local locksmith should be able to open it for you.

The perfect lock to learn manipulation. S&G 6730.

If you want to "buy" it open, contact a safe tech, not a locksmith. There are a few locksmiths who know how to open safes well, but many more have very limited experience opening safes and may do irreparable damage to the safe. Sounds like a good spot for an autodialer.

That safe is locked by the safe lock itself, not boltwork. So there is no doubt when you have the combination right. It stops turning solidly. Then you pull lightly on the dial to open the door. If you have to use any force, then you don't have the correct combination.

Seriously doubt it will work, but you can try 50-25-50 RLR.

I can't tell by the photo but is the safe in a wall or in the floor? Is there access to underneath or to behind the safe from the basement or from another room/closet/etc?

These little safes often have mounting holes that can be used to peek inside and either take the cover off the lock with a long screw driver or to spy the combination by watching the wheels turn.

Yes. Friction fence locks with three wheels.

The lock dial is S&G (Sargent & Greenleaf), not the safe. S&G did not make safes. The sticker may say who the manufacturer is. The lock itself may not even be an S&G, but probably is.

There really were! At least in the M6730 line. But, the changing index would be to the right, and that dial ring is a later model. I suspect this is just an R6730 mounted "upside down".

The lock will mount Left Hand stock out of the box. But that means the drop lever is "upside down" and relies totally on the spring to open. Years ago S&G put a stronger spring in the box for LH applications.

I have one 1960ish vault door in service mounted like this and I cringe every time I see it. Just waiting for the spring to fail.

At least you know your situation, and that all you would have to do is turn the vault upside down to open. LOL

op, sorry we haven't been much help so far. I'm not sure we can help with manipulation instructions on this forum, and it is really quite involved to describe in an individual post any way. Can you contact the previous owner like Sammy suggested?

Thanks for contributing to the discussion everyone.

To answer a few questions:
- We purchased our house from a family that was a deceased estate. We did this through an agent and didn't actually have contact with the family. I could call the agent and ask for a contact for the family but I would assume agents wouldn't give out details and also I feel a bit weird doing that. On the flip side, would the family even know it exists let alone know the code? So many questions. However my partner and I have already decided that if there is anything of wealth, sentimental value or documents that we will contact the agent to pass on the information to the family because I feel it would rightfully be there's.

- Yeah I probably will end up calling a professional but I figured this is the more exciting route and a little hobby while I'm in isolation and not working. Plus will probably save a few bucks having to call someone out.

- Safe is in the floor. No access to any side of it except the front as pictured. No access to it from any other room.

Either way, interested to see what happens. Maybe some things are meant to remain unknown?
If we crack it and I am allowed to I'll let you all know the contents once opened.

Discussing of cracking safes is not allowed in this forum (rule 19-B). So "we" can't open your safe.

Your possible routes are IMHO:
1) Call a safe tech to get it open in a state to be used in the future.
2) Call a locksmith to get it open.
3) [ADMIN EDIT: content removed].
4) Do some research about manipulation elsewhere and try to get it open without damage.

1. I would not leave an autodialer at a residence.
2. I would not manipulate a safe in a tight location. Too frustrating.
3. If I could get a drill rig in the space available I would drill under the dial ring and replace the dial.
4. Cost to open @ $275-$300 plus a new dial.
