DIY Sinusoidal pick...

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

DIY Sinusoidal pick...

Postby Peter Martin » 6 Jun 2020 17:52

I've been making my picks for about 25 years. This is my first try at a sinusoidal. Its going into the scrap bucket.
Some parts are too think, its uneven, and even though its strong, I suspect it will break.
However, I now have the best method for making them. Always have a lot of different and small Dremel stones on hand. While I don't like advertising for others, I would suggest that people who make their own picks look at "widgetsupply dot com" for a huge variety of things you can use with a Dremel and other locksmithing related items (loupes, tweezers, etc).
Go make stuff.

This is the second attempt at this pick form. The troughs are cut at 1-1/2 of Schlage pin spacing. The pick is roughed out using Dremel and small stones. From here all finishing will be by hand with needle files.

Looks good. I wouldn't trash the first attempt, it may work too.
Do you find them useful? Which locks are you opening?

Cheers :)

I just raked open a Russwin Corbin IC cylinder.
Much better than I anticipated. This with the first pick shown above... which I kept polishing until it looked more even and smoothed out some more. The second one is still being worked.
