Victor Safe 1888

Hello all, I recently purchased a Victor Safe at an estate sale. The serial number is eroded, but you can make out the patent date of 1888. Sadly, the safe has been painted over. Of course I would like to have a shot at it before paying a locksmith money. Any advice or tips for codes to try for a 60# dial from 1888? Thanks!

In the linked thread are also photos of a originally painted Victor. And many had success in removing later added layers of paint.

If that doesn't help, there is obviously the possibility to manipulate that lock, but discussion about this is not yet allowed in the public area of this forum.

Then you need to either pay someone or manipulate it yourself.

In any case you should first determine how many code wheels there are. There seem to be early Victors, that have only two wheels instead of the standard three.

I think that is the older version as the dial only goes to 60 versus 100.

There are 2- and 3-wheel locks with #60 dial.

I have 2 'mini' Victors that use the 2 wheel version. (11-13" high). Have never seen a 2 wheeled lock in any Victor larger than a 'mini'.
