ILCO ("Genuine Pin Tumbler") brass padlock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

ILCO ("Genuine Pin Tumbler") brass padlock

Postby Peter Martin » 29 Jun 2020 15:09

I found this padlock at an antique store with no key. I believe there's an exploded diagram of this in the Padlock Handbook.

Solid body. 5 pins. Hardened shackle. Unknown keyblank/keyway. The padlock has an indirect code stamped on the face: R2108.

I sprayed it with WD40 and the pins all move freely.

I may try to impression some keys for this, unless there's a nondestructive way to disassemble.

Nice padlock! I suggest you don't oil locks you want to impression.

If you pick the lock open, there could be a screw in the shackle hole to remove the core. Then you can make a working key.

Cheers :)

The face of the padlock has another digit on the code. Very faint first letter which shows better on the image than by naked eye: "CR2108".
I'll check my local hardware store for an ILCO keyblank to see which one fits.
I will probably try to pick it open first. If I can't disassemble it, then I'll impression the key.

Looks like this might be the blank to use...

This appears to be the same lock. From "The Padlock Handbook".

looks like a GR to me in the bottom code. unless that's just the brushed metal making the - of the G, so yeah probably a C =)

This lock was difficult to pick. The pins seemed in place but the cylinder wouldn't turn. Some fairly heavy tension was used. The pins were pushed back upward with varying tension before it turned.
I did bend one hook pick that I will now need to replace. The best description of the inside of this lock: Crunchy.

I usually just straighten out my bent picks on an anvil, with a hammer
Even the back of a vise should work
