Notching tension tools?

I'm filing small notches into more and more of my tension tools. In this case, and generally, they allow me either more freedom of movement with a pick, or to pick from a warding ledge.
I don't think this is an original idea. I believe I saw this in a 1970s book on security by Eugene Sloan but didn't recognize its utility until recently.

Do you file them when already bent? I imagine it would be easier to file before and then bend.

Correct. The cuts are filed away after bending so I can gauge their proper height and placement.

I also file away the bottoms to fit specific locks, normally only for tiny small keyways. I usually file the bottom of the wrench so to create a "step" which prevent the tool from being inserted too deeply.

This is an excellent idea. I was actually meaning to sit down and make a few wrenches today in various widths, I think I'll notch a few of them as well.
