Medeco 50 series padlock LFIC driving me nuts

Hope everyone is doing well, staying safe and enjoying the hobby.

I fairly recently acquired 2 50 series medeco padlocks.
These were made before assa during Hillenbrand.

Padlock #1 NOS(50-08101) has a 5 pin classic LFIC control sleeve (I think gen 2 but not sure) proprietary core. Unfortunately I don't have the control key.
Padlock #2 NOS(50-75101) is identical except no core, so I acquired one, same LFIC format, 5 pin biaxl NOS.
Tried installing the 5 pin biaxl in #2 and it will not seat properly and does not engage the cam, core just spins.
Several things occurred to me;
1. Am I missing a spacer/extension of some sort (like how Best has spacers for the 6/7 pin)?
2. Does #2 only accept the 6 pin cores?
3. Were there 5 and 6 pin versions of the 50 series padlocks (maybe differentiated by any or all of the last 5 digits after 50-) ?

Since I can't pull out the core on #1 (I believe there is a method with raising pins 3 and 4 if I can pick it to operating, but I have not picked these ones because I want to keep them new/mint-don't roast me but I am a collector too), I can't determine.

I contacted medeco tech services (below-long shot I know) and they said all 50 series padlocks only accommodate 6 pin cores, which I know is not entirely accurate since #1 has a 5 pin installed. Again, maybe it does have a spacer.

My goal is to get a control key for #1 and a spacer (if this is correct) for #2 to fit the biaxl core I have-or-keep it for #1 and I'd then have to get a 6 pin core for #2.

If anyone has any experience with this or has any contacts at medeco, I would be very grateful.

The code XXXXXXX does not match a Medeco 50-08101 padlock. It would likely match some type of cam lock, not an interchangeable core padlock.



In response to your second question, these 50- series padlocks you have require a specific 6 pin core, Medeco part number 320201. A 5 pin core cannot operate in 50- series padlocks.

More from medeco.............It looks like 50-08101 could be a 6 pin core pinned to 5. I'd considered this possibility, but, that 5 pin core fits so perfectly I was stuck on the spacer idea and perhaps wishful thinking. SO I asked him, other than a mortise what products will this 5 pin biaxial core accommodate. I'm dripping with mortise, need padlocks and deadbolts! Waiting to hear. This "identical core" he speaks of that doesn't have a control key....this will also be verified when I have access to 50-08101 again. The original box and paperwork indicate a control key (detailed procedure for removal of core), but I suppose anything's possible since I was not the original purchaser/owner but pics are here and it sure looks like an LFIC to me........I have many examples of removable medeco cores but not anywhere close to looking like the LFIC variety. But then again it could be a "decoy" looking like an LFIC to fit the 50 series.....if not I am definitely picking to control! I will send confirmation/pics of all when aforementioned realigned goals are complete.

ALL 50- series padlocks require a 6 pin core. It is entirely possible that you have some padlocks that are pinned to a 5 pin code (with one pin chamber empty) and operated by a 5 pin key, but the core is still a 6 pin length. Medeco does not provide a spacer that would allow a true 5 pin core to operate 50- series padlocks.



Additionally, 50- series padlocks can accept two different cylinders. One is a true interchangeable core that requires a control key to remove. The other looks identical when installed, but does not actually use a control key. Padlocks with the non-IC cylinder have a set screw in the body of the padlock at the toe of the shackle that retains the cylinder.



XXXXX and XXXXX (referring to biaxial 5 pin LFIC) are codes that are compatible with interchangeable core (albeit 5 pin). XXXXX is a control key code and XXXXX is its matching operating key. XXXXXX (referring to 50-08101) is not compatible with interchangeable core and there is no control key that could ever operate any cylinder pinned to it.
