Best Euro Cylinder for a Steel Door?

Thinking of upgrading your door security? Getting a better deadbolt or padlock? Getting a new frame or better hinges? Not sure what brand or model to go with for your particular application? Need a recommendation? Feel free to ask for advice here!

Best Euro Cylinder for a Steel Door?

Postby Glo » 10 Aug 2020 18:27

Looking for some advice on what would be the best euro cylinder to protect a stock room containing valuables, from all kinds of attack. I realize nothing is perfect, but the best all-rounder?

The door is semi-exterior between two building, steel, 70mm thick.

From what I read, Protec2 is highly recommended? I'm located in the UK.

Thanks in advance.

Against all attacks? Protec with a Drumm Geminy Shield. The Drumm Geminy Shield is very robust and gives as good protection as you are likely to find. Then the Abloy Protec (or Protec 2) gives the pick resistance.

Thanks for the reply.

Are there any similar products to that? I can't find it for sale in the UK.

Also, how would it fit to this door:

At the moment there's a single piece with handle covering everything, but leaves the lock quite exposed.

I'm super curious about that mortise lock in the door. That thing looks like a vault door! Am I seeing that right, 4 round deadbolts and a latch? I don't see any markings on the face plate. Who makes that thing?

Securitysnobs sells the Drumm Geminy Shield and has a location in the Netherlands that they use to ship throughout Europe. They also ship worldwide.

Have bought from them numerous times. They are very reputable and respected. Their prices are also quite good. While the Geminy shield is a bit pricey, it provides a very surprising amount of protection. That door would be worthy of such a lock shield.

I have no ownership and receive no compensation from Security Snobs. Am just a satisfied customer.

Thanks for the replies.

The mechanism is made by Hooply I believe. Also with extra mechanisms top and bottom, it's certainly very solid.

Ah great, I'll check them out, thanks for that :)

I wonder if there are any other ways of protecting the cylinder, perhaps some other sort of cover that could be fitted with existing holes. The Geminy shield is seriously substantial, though seems I'd have to drill through the door to fit it from what I've read, which would be a challenge. Do you know of any similar products?

Usually our Italian doors have a simple protection over the cylinder. It's anti snap and anti drill. They're called DEFENDER here.

Cheers :)

I couldn't find anything called 'Defender', but is it something like this?

That's the idea, but the product I was referring to is better. Here's one example https://www.disec.it/en/products/produc ... heavy_duty

Good luck :)

I was going to say, it looks like Hooply sells a cylinder guard as well. It looks like that is what you posted an image of, Glo. Might make sense to go with the same manufacturer to ensure compatibility?

Be sure to report back with photos of the finished door when you are done!
