Looking for a unicorn dial combination lock

Postby gramana » 23 Nov 2020 0:23

Hi all, I've gotten into the hobby of collecting padlocks and cam locks, and I really like combination locks, especially the dial kind. I've been trying to find a dial combination lock that requires at least 4 numbers and also has a dual ball bearing locking mechanism. So far I haven't been able to find such a lock anwhere. Even the pricey S&G combination padlocks seem to have only a lever locking mechanism. Thanks in advance for any leads or manufacturer suggestions.

A dial 4 number combination padlock AND also has ball bearings to lock the shackle? I'm not sure if that's even a thing..

Why do you believe such a thing exists?

Even though the S&G combo padlocks have the butterfly dual lever locking mechanism, they still can not be shimmed if that is your concern.

As for a face dial combo padlock (like the S&Gs), the only one I have seen that is four number was a custom made one with a genuine Mosler safe lock inside the padlock body. Wheel type face dials with a 4 digit combos are around.

Wouldn't surprise me if they don't exist, except maybe for one-off custom made items that are seldom posted on eBay. I've been looking for one for the past year.

Thank you for that info. I haven't been able to examine the S&G up close. Could you please explain by what mechanism the lock is shim-proof?
