Got a cool old key? What keyway is this?! Need a key for that old steamer trunk or padlock? Do Not Duplicate got you down? What's that part number for that factory key section? Which supplier has this key blank in stock? Need the MACS, root depth, or Depth and Spacing for your lock? Need some pre cut keys? Keys and Key Blanks is the forum for you!

Trying to find a key blank for Long Lock T37

Postby Ongaku » 6 Dec 2020 23:52

Long story short, old aunty passed, family got house, old uncles old military steamer trunk in basement. I have some basic picking skills, but research seems to say this is not modern style picking and also this lock may be “guarded” (I couldn’t feel any springs - though I don’t have any real picks on me just a shank, a combo bypass, and a latch bypass). Trying to find a key that says T37 online has been no use. Wasn’t sure if there’s another model key that may work or could be Jerry rigged. I’d like to not break the lock and having a functioning key would be nice. Plan on calling around in the morning for see if any local smiths have a key.

Here's what one looks like, you could make your own if you got a blank or piece of metal that fits into the lock.

Hey! I saw your guys site while researching and was gonna hit you up too if locals didn’t have one on hand.

And yeh *eyeroll* apparently despite the 10 billion similar steamer trunk questions, and might I add no rule in the actual FAQ/rule posts, they can’t help with lock picking a closed lock; I mean sarcastically, why would you bother to pick an open one? /jk  jokes aside, we’re adults. If I wanted to break into a trunk, a house, or a filing cabinet... let’s just say a lock keeps honest people honest. *shrugs*

Thanks! That looks hella easy to make if I had my tools :( sadly I’m visiting far from home so no dremel or even a pair of tin snips and a hanging folder or retractable measuring tape...

If you want in and have nothing to loose you can try making a key from a plastic soda bottle ;)

I would try a beer can and some scissors and fold the aluminum several times to thicken it up so you can turn the key without it flopping around. I like the soda bottle idea as well, some of those can be pretty sturdy. or an old credit card / store savings club card too..
