When I deasembling an old EU lock I notice a smal ball bearing inside the two of the pins springs. They move up and down inside the spring. What is the purpose of this ?

What is a EU lock? (is it a European lock? you mean a profile cylinder insert? which brand is it?)

Can you share some photos of these ball bearings and springs? We do not see what you have in front of you, so hard to provide an answer.

Upload photos to your favorite photo sharing site (photobucket, flickr, imgur, etc) and share the link here.

Thank you,
Squelchtone

Is it an actual bearing or a small piece of metal used to prevent comb picking? Please show us a picture.

I thought the ball bearing inside the spring was an anti-bump device.
I presume you mean that it was in an Abus-type lock, or a CES or similar.

The balls are there for comb-picking. Zeiss Ikon has these balls standard in their old cylinders, mostly on fixed places. Ikon designed many straight keyways with ribs, for master-key profiling with the keyway. In certain cases the balls also mighty break the drills.
